The Power of Mindfulness

By Barbara “Bobbi” Henderson

Mindfulness is being present in the moment and being fully aware of what is happening in your surroundings. Most of the time we go about our lives doing everything in a perfunctory manner without even thinking.

Can you think of something you do everyday without thinking? Have you ever gone into the next room and then forgotten the reason you went there? How about when you were late, you started rushing, misplacing things and ended up late for your appointment? Then you couldn’t seem to get caught up because unexpected things just kept happening. These are examples of the unfocused mind which is the cause of most accidents.

Practicing mindfulness causes us to become conscious of what we are doing and aware of how our body is reacting to the various stimulus outside the body. This allows us to experience things as they are happening and not after they have already happened.

Our point of power is in the present moment because that is when we have the power to change our thoughts, feelings and attitudes.

Practicing mindfulness means taking responsibility for our thoughts and actions. It is about paying attention on purpose without being attached to the outcome or being judgmental. The experience is the reality.

Mindfulness can have a very positive affect upon your life and help prevent accidents. When you practice mindfulness you will bring more joy into your life and you will begin to appreciate the simple things in life a whole lot more Mindfulness has a calming affect on the body which leads to better health.

To your health!
