Life Is About Change

By Barbara Bobbi Henderson

Yes! Life is about change. Change is the greatest thing in the universe for helping to create the lifestyle that you desire. Change is necessary in our lives. It is how we often deal with change that creates the problem. I would like to share a couple of very simple tools that I have learned and practiced that can help you take a good look at your life today. You can create a very simple proactive plan that will help empower you in dealing with your next change or stressful situation when it shows up in your life. It is a known fact that stress is a killer. Why not have less stress and enjoy a healthier lifestyle?

Let’s begin by looking at some things in your life that you would like to change. Would you like to go back to school, learn to meditate, practice being thankful, change the way you treat others or just start nurturing yourself more? What planning will be necessary to accomplish this? Get the idea? Making changes to deal with change is much easier than it first appears. Get yourself a journal and let’s begin.

  1. First make a list of all the things in your life now that you would like to be rid of ASAP.
  2. Make a list of all the things you have always wanted to do or be. Put both lists in order of importance in your life.
  3. Review the lists, set some priorities and begin seriously thinking about your life; where you are and where do you want to be at some point in the future. Set goals.
  4. If there is someone in your life you need to forgive do this now.
  5. If you need to thank someone or tell them how much you care about them…take care of this now. Get rid of loose ends.
  6. Make another list…Yes another list and this time write down all the things that you are thankful for in your life today.
  7. Speak of yourself and to yourself only with the highest regards…say things like “I am successful and every day I see more positive results in my life.”
  8. Get rid of license plates, stickers or anything that shows you in a poor light. For instance, “can’t win,” “dumb one,” “the one your mom warned you about,” etc. These are all negative and they send the wrong message to the universe, especially if you are trying to succeed.
  9. Once you have made your lists, set goals and prayed or meditated on the things you want to change, be sure to watch for positive evidences that these things are coming to fruition. Allow yourself to feel grateful for having received them, no matter how small the evidence.
  10. Write this statement at the top of your list of things that you want to accomplish in your life…

I know that thoughts are things; thoughts and words have energy and can help me create my future, whether it be good or bad. I plan to put action behind my positive thoughts and begin to go about my life as though what I desire is already in my life.”

When we decide that we really want something, it is important to set written goals. Refrain from using negative words in your daily life or allowing feelings of anger, jealousy, resentment, doubt, etc. Negative thoughts and words such as can’t, don’t, stop, depressed, or words beginning with un, send mixed messages to the universe. Use positive self talk and begin to see your life in a positive light. Take action when opportunity arises. Work with the universe. It takes about 30 days to change an old habit.
